I look like Mike from Monsters, Inc.

Despite a brief scare in which I doubted my Roomiekins' willpower and strength, she and the bf have managed to stay broken up for a whole week. I'm proud of her. But new guy from last weekend... looks like he's here to stay. I like him better than the last guy, though.

My sister, last week, became the second in our family to be diagnosed with diabetes this year. And my brother has been warned that if he doesn't watch it, it'll be a threefer. Our mother is beside herself. As I posted on a fellow blogger's blog when he had a recent glucose-related scare:

I knew for years that with family history and whatnot, I was predisposed to diabetes and needed to adopt a healthier lifestyle. But I didn't. And sure enough, this past January, I was diagnosed as having LONG since bypassed prediabetes, and was bona fide.

I know, diabetes is not good. But in some ways, it's the best thing that's ever happened to me. It was the wake-up call I needed to GET MYSELF HEALTHY! I have lost about 50 pounds, I'm eating right (save the occasional Oreo) and excercising.

If the news on your return visit isn't what you want to hear, it's not the kiss of death. You can keep it under control without altering your lifestyle TOO much, believe it or not.

Best wishes!

[That friend turned out to have had a false alarm.] Sissy-poo, though... not so much. But even before her diagnosis, she had begun a diligent workout routine, and makes sure her entire family eats healthy, so she's already on the right track. I feel badly for her, though. I wish none of us had to deal with it.

In other health news, I woke up, grudgingly, early this morning. I ate some raisin bran and sat on my back porch reading a chapter of my book, or trying to; Crazy Lady and Leanna came outside so I ended up talking to them for a few minutes. Being the morning person that I am [not] I wasn't a brilliant conversationalist. While I was out there, I got an eyelash in my eye and was rubbing it out. Leanna asked me why my eye was all red, and I said I had been rubbing it. When I went inside I went back to sleep and slept til early afternoon. (Hey, it's my one day to sleep in!)

When I woke up, only one eye opened. The eye I had been rubbing earlier was completely swollen shut!

Luckily, it was the eye I'm blind in anyway, and as the day progressed, I have been able to open it to the merest sliver. One of my bosses took one look at me and said, "Pinkeye." Great. I'm not sure that's what it is, but if it is... I'm contagious. Which means I can't (shouldn't) teach tomorrow. Which means I'll have to get someone to take over at the last minute. I don't know... maybe I'll just go buy me some big sunglasses and be all rockstarish and keep myself lathered in hand sanitizer. We'll see.

But for now, my eye and I are going to bed. Holla!
