The Return of the Fireworks

Internal, that is.

Last night, I went to my mom's best friend's 70th surprise birthday party. It was wonderful- our families have been welded together for nearly forty years, and I saw SO many people I hadn't seen in years!

Now, let me say here that this party was with the same people as the get-together on the fifth of July, when I got so ill.

Before I went to the party, I was feeling slightly off, but it was no big deal. The plan was to stay at the party until 9:00, which is when the invitation said it ended, and then go out with Roomiekins to celebrate my birthday with a little karaoke fun. That didn't happen.

Around 8:00, I started feeling sick again. REALLY sick. I had come to the party with my mom, she was having a great time, and I didn't want to make her leave, but with every second I was severely regretting the four pimento cheese croissants I had eaten in the 90+ degree heat. I stuck it out, miserably, until she was ready to leave.

When we (finally) got back to Mom's house, I called Becky and told her I just needed to lay down for a few minutes because I had gotten overheated, but I would be good to go in just a bit. I felt much worse than I let on, but I was determined not to cancel on her at the last minute. She can never get me to go out, and she had had a really bad day at work, so I didn't want to disappoint her.

But a few minutes later, the fireworks came. And came, and came, and came. I could not pretend that I was okay anymore; I had to call Becky back and tell her I wasn't going anywhere. The next couple of hours were pretty miserable before I finally sacked out on Mom's couch.

And thus ends my love affair with pimento cheese.

How strange is it that the last time I exhibited the exact same symptoms was when I was with these same people! I can only assume that it has something to do with my recent diagnosis of gall stones, but seriously, how weird is that?!

In the light of the morning, I felt SO much better. Now I must go get showered, dressed, and run errands.
