Right-Wing Skepticism

(Let it be known before I write this that I AM a die-hard Republican. But I am a Republican that has some serious doubts about Sarah Palin.)

Remember the campaign that John McCain had going a few short months ago, about Barack Obama's "celebrity" status, when he compared him to Britney Spears and Madonna?

Well, I'll admit that he had a point. Since when are politicians gracing the cover of Rolling Stone, after all? Also, a few weeks ago, I had a customer at the bookstore asking for some unbiased literature for his 12-year-old on the candidates and their policies and ideas. There were 5 children's books on Obama- not ONE on John McCain. Interesting...

However.

Everyone seems to think it was a clever strategy for McCain to select Palin; and hey, who am I to argue? The numbers speak for themselves. And the media that sorely neglected McCain is suddenly all about the republican ticket, plastering Sarah Palin on the cover of almost every single weekly periodical we have in our store. OK. Star. People.

Who's bringing rock star status to Washington now, McCain? Even Jamie Lynn Spears' paternity drama is taking a back burner to Palin's "Babies, Lies, and Contraversy."

Oh, and a book about Sarah Palin has suddenly appeared. Sloppy, inconcise, and clearly thrown together in a week. This, and gossip rags, is where the public is supposed to gain insight into the views and values of the potential leaders of the country? Puh-lease.

I don't think John McCain is putting a whole lot of faith in the intelligence of the average voting American.

UPDATE, 2:45 PM~ Obama, quit whining. We are not stupid enough to think that you weren't referring to Sarah Palin with your "lipstick on a pig" comment. Whatever I think about Gov. Palin, that was just plain tacky.
